Neonautica is a mind-bending collision of avant-pop, EDM, and experimental classical music. Based in New Orleans, Megan Ihnen & Alan Theisen are redefining what cross-genre performances can be, fusing live vocals and saxophone with funky psychedelic beats into something you’ve never quite heard before but won’t want to stop grooving to. What do they sound like? Think ODESZA, Björk, CloZee, and Kronos Quartet all jamming together in a sparkly sci-fi fever dream.
Neonautica shows can be anything from all-out rave sets to high-concept theatrical recitals. If you're tired of cookie-cutter drops and want to feel something otherworldly on the dance floor (or in the concert hall), this is the duo to catch. They're building musical bridges made of synths, soul, and stardust.
For fans of: Big Gigantic, GRiZ, The Floozies, Meredith Monk, Caroline Shaw, Laurie Anderson, St. Vincent, or anyone who loves electronic music with an experimental edge.
The duo (formerly known as MIATp) has performed at festivals and venues across the United States including Oh My Ears Festival (Phoenix), NEXTET (Las Vegas), Zeitgeist Halloween Festival (St. Paul), and more. Neonautica has collaborated with numerous musicians and artists such as composer/producer Andrew Rodriguez (Close Your Eyes), singer/actress Gelsey Bell (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812), composer Jennifer Bellor, performer/video artist Nick Zoulek (Rushing Past Willow), composer Neil Anderson-Himmelspach, and saxophonist Scott Johnson (Delfeayo Marsalis & the Uptown Jazz Orchestra). Neonautica is a partnered ensemble with ADJective Composers’ Collective as well as a fiscally sponsored project of Bang on a Can.
